Wesleyan Goes for 7th State Basketball Title

Wesleyan is one of five Gwinnett County teams playing for state championships this week.

It's been quite a millennium for the Wesleyan girls basketball program.

Since 2002, theΒ Lady Wolves have won 10 Georgia High School Association championships, including six in a row. They had not won a title before 2002.

Wesleyan plays for its 11th championship this weekend in the Class 2A finals in Macon. It will face Kendrick at 3 p.m. Friday, March 7 at the Macon Centreplex.

The Lady Wolves advanced to the final with a 68-64 comeback win over Laney in the semifinals at Columbus State. It will be their 13th time in the finals in 14 seasons, reported the Gwinnett Daily Post.

The semifinal news for Norcross High School's boys team wasn't as good. The Blue Devils lost to Tift County 78-70, ending their run for a second straight title in Class 6A.

Wesleyan is one of five Gwinnett tams playing for championships this weekend. The other four teams:

Greater Atlanta Christian boys: The Spartans beat Laney 66-58 to reach the boys Class 2A final. They will play Calhoun Friday at 4:45 p.m. in Macon.
