Viewfinder: Power Soccer Premier Cup in Norcross

Lucky Shoals hosted the wheelchair soccer, one of the first competitive sports leagues for people with disabilities.

The United States Power Soccer Association held its 2011 Premier Conference Cup at Lucky Shoals Park in Norcross this weekend. Hosted by Royalty Power Soccer out of Lawrenceville, the tournament showcased the top 10 teams of the country; including Georgia, California, Arizona, and Indiana.

USPSA developed the first competitive team sports for athletes with disabilities that include quadriplegia, muscular dystrophy, multiple sclerosis and cerebral palsy.

A soccer game designed for players in power wheelchairs the game is played in a regulation basketball court with two teams of four people.  Using their wheelchairs the players kick a 13-inch soccer ball around the court as they defend it from the other team.
