Tiger Woods Expected for PGA Championship in Gwinnett

Famed golfer's agent issues statement about event in Johns Creek.

Tiger Woods -- the world's most famous and controversial golfer -- is expected to play in next month's PGA Championship in Johns Creek.

Woods' agent, Mark Steinberg, said in a PGA Of America-issued statement Friday that Woods would play in the event at theΒ Atlanta Athletic ClubΒ if there are "no complications" related to his recent leg injuries.

Also, Woods has announced that he is playing in next week's World Golf Championships (Aug. 4-7) in Akron, Ohio.

Woods tied for fourth in the 2011 Masters tournament in Augusta but has not played a full schedule since while recovering from leg injuries.

The PGA Championship is one of golf's four major tournaments. Woods has won 14 majors, four behind all-time leader Jack Nicklaus. However, Woods has not won a major tournament since the 2008 U.S. Open.

Another indication that Woods is expected to compete in Gwinnett: He is scheduled for a media interview at the Atlanta Athletic Club on Tuesday, Aug. 9. The tournament is Aug. 11-14.

Woods is the PGA Tour's all-time earnings leader with $94.7 million in official tour winnings.

Also, he is now divorced from Elin Nordegren after well-publicized extramarital affairs. Woods reportedly is about to move into a new home in Jupiter, Fla.
