Thanks To A Wild Pitch, Norcross Edged Out Peachtree Ridge 3-2

The Norcross HS Baseball Team defeated Peachtree Ridge 3-2 in a low scoring affair.

Norcross second baseman Zach Shire scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the 6th inning, which would prove to be the game winner as Norcross defeated Peachtree Ridge 3-2 Monday night.

"I felt both guys pitched really, really well.  It was a matter of who was going to battle in there and push a run across," Norcross Head Coach Andy Collins said. He said he think it has been years since the team won on a wild pitch or past-ball play.

The Lions took the lead in the top of the second and Norcross rallied to tie the game in their half of the third. Then the game remained deadlocked until the bottom of the sixth inning.  Second baseman Zach Shire reached the bases on an error by the Lions' shortstop Preston Johnson, setting the stage for the winning run to cross the plate.

Catcher Adam Greenstein singled.  Then  Shire scored from second base on a wild pitch,  giving the Blue Devils a 3-2 lead going into the seventh.  There would be no rally for the Lions as Chris Raasch set them down in order and the Blue Devils got the 3-2 win.

For the Blue Devils, William Paschal went 2 for 2 and drove in an RBI.  Tanner Maloof went 2 for 4 with 2 singles.  Norcross pitcher Chris Raasch had a solid performance, striking out 5 and walking 2.  Jared Walsh also had a good outing for the Lions, striking out 8 batters while walking only 1.
