Norcross Girl Leads in U.S. Junior Golf Championship

Bailey Tardy, a rising junior at Greater Atlanta Christian School, is competing in the championship, which brings out top amateur golfers from around the nation.

A Norcross girl received medalist honors this week at the U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship being held in Indiana. It makes her the event's top seed.

Bailey Tardy earned the honor after golfing a 6-under 138 Tuesday in the championship's second qualifying round of stroke-play, according to the United States Golf Association.

"Tardy’s 138 is the lowest medalist score since Lisa McCloskey fired a 134 total at Hartford (Conn.) Golf Club in 2008," said the U.S. Golf Association. "It’s quite an achievement for a young woman who has only been playing golf for four years."

Tardy, who attends Greater Atlanta Christian School in Norcross, told the U.S. Golf Association that she didn't think her score would hold up as the low championship score, citing the quality of other players. But, it did.

So, it may come as no surprise that the rising junior has already committed to play for the University of Georgia when she graduates high school.

U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship, which takes place July 22-27, is open to female amateur golfers under the age of 18. It includes 36 holes of stroke play followed by six rounds of match play. It concludes with a 36-hole final on Saturday.
