Last-Minute TD Knocks Norcross Out of the Playoffs

Dacula quarterback Rocky Capobianco had tears streaming down his face Friday after the Falcons' first-round playoff game against .

The tears of joy came minutes after he scored the winning touchdown on a 5-yard run with 17 seconds left to lift Dacula to a 17-10 victory over the Blue Devils and advance in the Class AAAAA playoffs.

Capobianco's game-winner capped an eight-play, 77-yard drive and propelled the Falcons into a home-field second-round match next week against Newnan, 17-7 winners over Valdosta.

Dacula (8-3) started its winning drive after stopping Norcross (7-4) on downs with just over four minutes left in the game. The Blue Devils had driven to the Dacula 18, but on third-and-4, Norcross quarterback Joseph Wilber was flushed from the pocket and sacked for a 5-yard loss by Dustin Johnson.

Wilber's fourth-down pass the fell incompete.

From there, Dacula mounted its game-winning drive. The big gainer was a 38-yard completion from Capobianco to Davian McEwen to the Norcross 19. Capobianco carried four straight plays, scoring from the Norcross 5 with 17 seconds left, and the Dacula celebration was on.

Norcross had drawn first blood in the second quarter when Alvin Kamara scored on a 6-yard run with 5:34 left.

The Blue Devils had gotten close late in the first period, but a 27-yard field goal attempt on the first play of the second quarter was blocked by Dacula's Juanye Roberts.

But Dacula went on an 11-play drive following Kamara's score, and a 41-yard field goal with 3:59 left in the second made it 7-3 at the half.

Dacula pulled ahead in the third quarter when Marcus Cox broke loose for a 21-yard touchdown run with 8:06 left on the clock, but Norcross got a 22-yard field goal with 2:20 left in the period to tie the score at 10-10.

Capobianco led Dacula with 75 yards on 22 carries, while Cox added 66 yards on 12 rushes.

Kamara led Norcross with 63 yards and a score on 17 rushes. Wilber went 10-for-18 with an interception for 108 yards for Norcross, and added 42 yards on the ground in 10 rushes.
