How Do the Lady Blue Devils Rank Nationally?

Check out where the Norcross team falls on the MaxPreps Top 25 list now that they've defeated North Gwinnett in the state championships and earned the Class AAAAAA title.

Last week was a good week in basketball for Norcross teams. Greater Atlanta Christian earned the Class AA title, and the boys and girls for Norcross High both won the Class AAAAAA titles in the state championships.

The win earned the Lady Blue Devils a higher spot on the MaxPreps Top 25 ranking for high school girls basketball. Considering Norcross had been ranked No. 23 in the nation the week they were playing North Gwinnett, which was at No. 5, winning the game was a huge triumph.

The game caused the Norcross girls to jump to No. 17 on the list this week. Here's what MaxPreps had to say about the team:

The one-two punch of Diamond DeShields (24 points) and Shayla Cooper (20) was way too much for previous No. 5 North Gwinnett in the Georgia 7-A title game. The final score was 63-42.

As for North Gwinnett, they're now at No. 20. The website explains that the Lady Bulldogs rely too much on three-pointers, which usually don't work at the Macon Coliseum since the building is too dark and hard to shoot in.

"That's one reason North Gwinnett lost to No. 17 Norcross in the Georgia finals," continues MaxPreps. "Another is that Norcross is really good."
