High School Football Predictions

Norcross should win again, but can Meadowcreek break the streak?

I was humbled a bit last week in my predictions of high-school football games played in Patch coverage areas from Stone Mountain to Cumming.

After a can-you-believe-it 21-3 record the first week, I cooled off to a 16-6 mark last week (38-9 overall). I only missed badly on one pick. Really.

So, let's lace 'em up for another week. Are you ready?

Roswell at Norcross: This is a matchup of teams heading in different directions. Roswell saw a two-touchdown lead over Collins Hills evaporate in its season-opener and hasn’t looked the same since. The Hornets (0-2) were beaten soundly 31-2 last week by Peachtree Ridge. Both of the Hornets' losses have been on their home field. Norcross (2-0) has been impressive in wins over Dacula and Parkview, and the Blue Devils field one of the more balanced offense-defense lineups in the ‘burbs. The Blue Devils can be awfully good on their home field. Norcross 35, Roswell 14.

Holy Innocents’ at Greater Atlanta Christian: The set-up for this game was similar last year for GAC. Both teams were 2-0. Both were playoff-caliber teams in their respective classifications (GAC in Class AA; Holy Innocents’ in Class A). And the Spartans were expected to get a fierce test from the Golden Bears. Result? GAC won by 39 points. This won’t be the same drubbing as last year, but don’t expect a tight one, either. GAC has bigger fish to fry. GAC 34, Holy Innocents’ 20.

Wheeler at Meadowcreek: We won’t even mention the Meadowcreek streak in hopes to send some mojo in the Mustangs' direction. Meadowcreek (0-2) has winless Wheeler (0-2) at home Friday. The Mustangs were Wheeler’s only win last year — a 16-0 decision. How’s this for impartial sportswriting? You can do it Mustangs. Meadowcreek 22, Wheeler 20
