GAC, Norcross Players Make GSWA All-State Football Teams

The 2012 Georgia Sportwriters Association All-State Football Team included players from Norcross High and Greater Atlanta Christian.

The 2012 Georgia Sportswriters Association All-State Football Teams were released this week, and a few football gems from the Norcross area made it in.

According to the Gwinnett Daily Post citing the Associated Press, players from both Norcross High and Greater Atlanta Christian were on the teams for their respective classes.

The Class AAAAAA team had six players from the Blue Devils, and the Spartans had four football players in Class AA. Norcross head coach Keith Maloof was named the Coach of the Year and running back Alvin Kamara received the Offensive Player of the Year title.

Class AAAAAA (Norcross)
RB Alvin Kamara, senior, first team offense
DL Lorenzo Carter, junior, first team defense
LB Tommy Tate, senior, first team defense
DB Shon Akins, senior, first team defense
RET Myles Autry, junior, first team defense
OL, Joseph Ledford, senior, honorable mention

Class AA (Greater Atlanta Christian)
WR Peter Whiteneck, senior, first team offense
P Ross Wood, junior, first team defense
RB Kyle Scales, senior, second team offense
QB Rafe Chapple, junior, honorable mention

During the 2012 season, the Blue Devils led the way in its class to go on to the state championships at the Georgia Dome for the first time in Norcross history, and they won 21-14 against Lovejoy High. The Spartans lost in the semifinals against Jefferson High.
