Diamond DeShields Named National Girls Basketball Player of the Year

MaxPreps has given the 2013 title to the senior guard at Norcross High.

Norcross High's Diamond DeShields has been named MaxPreps' 2013 National Girls Basketball Player of the Year.

The senior guard, who's headed to the University of North Carolina in the fall, helped Norcross High win three state titles during her high school career, including this year's Class AAAAAA Title after defeating North Gwinnett.

MaxPreps also notes that DeShields was named to both the McDonald’s and the Women's Basetball Coaches Association's (WBCA) all-American teams this past year.

“It’s gratifying,” she told the online news site. “I’ve done more than I wanted. I wanted one state title, and I got three. I wanted to make either the McDonald’s team or the WBCA team, and I made both.”

Additionally, she was recognized as the MVP for the USA Basketball Women’s U17 World Championship team and was picked for the USA Today High School Basketball Team.
