It comes after the start of school in Norcross and Gwinnett County, but back to school shoppers can enjoy a sales-tax holiday soon.
According to the Georgia Department of Revenue, the state will offer shoppers a sales-tax holiday on back-to-school goods on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 10-11. Gwinnett public schools start back on Monday, Aug. 6.
The sales tax will be suspended then on general school supplies, clothing worth $100 or less, and computers and computer accessories.
The National Retail Federation has estimated that parents with school children will spend about $690 on clothes, electronics and school supplies. That is an increase of $85 from last year's average.
