It is an honor for me to nominate Jis Muntuabo for the Peachtree Rotary Club’s Student of the Month. Although only in fifth grade, Jis already demonstrates many of the core qualities and competencies desired by employers in our 21st century economy.

First and foremost, Jis continually sets and achieves ambitious goals. She knows exactly what profession she would like to enter when she is older, and has already begun backwards planning the steps that she needs to take to graduate high school and make it through college. According to Jis, one of these steps includes ending fifth grade on an eighth grade reading level. With this in mind, she challenges herself daily with above grade-level books.

Additionally, Jis makes sure that she is always organized. She keeps a meticulous binder and cubby, never losing papers. On several occasions, she has even emailed me her assignments to ensure that they are turned in ahead of time. Jis is so organized, that she consistently takes less than 30 seconds to transition between subjects in class. She never wastes a second.

However, what truly sets Jis apart from her peers is her risk-taking attitude. She constantly participates in class, even when she might not know the answer. She pushes herself to learn from her mistakes and is not afraid to question her own thoughts and beliefs.

Finally, Jis loves to collaborate with her peers. She listens attentively as classmates share their thinking. She questions them, pushing their thinking even deeper. Jis helps others with their work. She knew that her classmates needed additional support when putting together their research projects. As a result, she worked in two groups simultaneously in order to ensure that all of her classmates produced successful projects.

Clearly, Jis is a role model for all students in both our public and private schooling systems.

Sincerely,

John Nowak
