U.S. News Ranks Norcross, Meadowcreek Among Top High Schools in Georgia

U.S. News & World Report ranked Norcross at No. 8 and Meadowcreek at No. 19 for its 2013 best high schools list for the state. Read how the new rankings compare to last year.

Last week, The Washington Post published its rankings of America's most challenging high schools, and both Norcross High and Meadowcreek High made top marks for the state of Georgia.

On Tuesday (April 23), U.S. News & World Report released its own list of the best high schools per state, and the two Norcross schools made it on there, too.

On the U.S. News list, Norcross High came in at No. 8 and Meadowcreek High is No. 19. Nationally, Norcross ranks No. 460 and Meadowcreek is No. 1,132.

For both schools, these new rankings are an improvement compared to last year. In the 2012 ranking, Norcross reached No. 12 for the state and No. 667 in the nation, while Meadowcreek took the No. 22 spot statewide and No. 1,292 for the country.

U.S. News also lists how the schools did in other categories. Norcross has a college readiness score of 47.2, with both its math and English proficiency scores at 3.4. Meadowcreek has a 30.4 college readiness score, a 3.1 proficiency rate for math and 3.3 proficiency for English. Both schools have an 18:1 students-to-teacher ratio.

Additionally, Norcross has the largest student body in the top 10 schools for the state.

Many other Gwinnett County Public Schools made the U.S. News list, too. The Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science and Technology in Lawrenceville scored the No. 1 spot, which it also did for The Washington Post list; Parkview High in Lilburn made it at No. 10; Peachtree Ridge High took the No. 11 spot; and Berkmar High, also in Lilburn, reached No. 13.
