Norcross High Students to Rock Out Graduation

Several weeks ago a morning announcement at Norcross High beckoned musically gifted seniors to compose a song about their upcoming graduation.

Kevin Fong and Brelan Butler took that to heart and with their recently formed band, Dirty Mike and the Boys, that’s exactly what they did.

They did such a good job with their composition that they won the contest; the prize being the opportunity to play their song during the graduation ceremony.

A couple of months ago these four young men, Kevin Fong, Brelan Butler, Sam Mireles and Jake Fee, decided to form a band.

So when the opportunity came to write a graduation song they were excited about it. All four boys have lived in Peachtree Corners for their entire lives, making this opportunity all the more special. 

In talking to Fong he said that he was pleased to win this contest because ”It gives validation to our music writing. It’s just fun, too.” Butler wrote most of the lyrics, with Fong working on one verse and Fong wrote the music.

They’re excited about performing the song for graduation but a little sad too about the fact that Fee, being a sophomore, will have to be replaced by a guitar player who is a senior, in order to meet the contest requirements.

In the band currently Fong plays guitar/piano, Butler-drums, Fee-lead guitar and Mireles is a vocalist. 

Next fall Fong will be heading for UGA, Butler and Mireles are still undecided and Fee will be a junior at Norcross. They will enjoy their new band and new success during the coming summer knowing that in the fall they will go their separate ways.
