Each STAR student also chooses a teacher as the educator who had a strong influence on him or her. Alin selected social studies teacher James Glenn, who was also honored in 2010 as Gwinnett County's 2010 High School Teacher of the Year.

“We are very proud of our STAR students and teachers. They are indeed stars, representing the best and brightest in our schools,” said Dr. Gale Hey, Gwinnett County Public School’s deputy superintendent of teaching and learning. “Academically, these students have excelled in our schools and are prepared for the future. Part of that preparation was provided by the stellar teachers we also recognize today. We appreciate all that they do day in and day out for our students.”
