NCSP Seeking School Supplies for 3,500 Students

The Norcross Cluster Schools Partnership is asking not only for items needed in the classroom, but in the school clinics, too.

It seems as if school just ended, but before you know it, it'll be August and you'll be out and about checking off the items on your children's school supplies list.

Luckily, the Norcross Cluster Schools Partnership is already planning for those supply lists for the 2012-2013 school year. NCSP is asking for the public's help in filling out the supply closets for the schools in the Norcross and Peachtree Corners cluster.

While several of the businesses and organizations such as the Norcross Business Association and Peachtree Corners Business Association are actively supporting all the schools, there are many students in the area who come from families that struggle to make ends meet. In the middle and elementary schools that NCSP are involved with, more than 3,500 students fall into this category.

NCSP is asking for donations of basic school supplies. The list of school supplies needed include:

  • white copy paper
  • crayons and colored pencils (eight and 12 count)
  • wide and narrow markers
  • No. 2 pencils (no mechanical)
  • black and white, wide-rule composition books
  • tissues
  • hand sanitizer

The list isn't limited to just paper and pencils, though. Kim Dorough of NCSP urges the community to donate items used in the school clinics, too, because of the lack of county funding for these types of items.

The clinical supplies include:

  • alcohol swabs
  • adhesive bandages
  • hydrogen peroxide
  • antibacterial hand wipes
  • feminine hygiene products
  • gauze
  • medical tape

Donations will be accepted through July 20 at various local businesses, including 45 South Cafe in downtown Norcross, Shane's Rib Shack off Peachtree Industrial, the Robert D. Fowler YMCA, State Bank, CEO Center and Bank of North Georgia.

The schools that would benefit from the supplies include Beaver Ridge Elementary, Norcross Elementary, Peachtree Elementary, Pinckneyville Middle, Simpson Elementary, Stripling Elementary, Summerour Middle and the GIVE Center West.
