Meadowcreek Team Wins Scholarships in Web Challenge

Meadowcreek High students used their Web development skills to bring home the top prize in the Technology Association of Georgia's 2012 Web Challenge Scholarship Competition.

A team of students took home the top prize in this weekend's Technology Association of Georgia’s 2012 Web Challenge Scholarship Competition for Mobile Websites.

According to a press release from Gwinnett County Public Schools spokesman Jorge Quintana, the competition required the team's three students to use their web development skills, as well as their knowledge of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

The team members—11th grader Erick Salgado, 10th grader Jose Santiago, and 10th grader Quang Vo—created a mobile electronic application. They earned the Grand Prize for the Best Overall Entry and Best Concept, and each of the three students received a scholarship for $1,166.

In addition to having the overall winning team, Meadowcreek High also claimed several other award winners from the competition, including senior Viet Dang and junior Muhammad Osama Sakhi, who placed first in the Judge’s Prize category. They earned a scholarship for $750 each.

Seniors Rigoberto Cisneros and Francisco Ozuna placed second in the Judge’s Prize category and eached a scholarship for $500 each.

Pintu Thaker, who teaches these award-winning Meadowcreek High students, was awarded a $500 grant for her classroom.

Several other Gwinnett teams were finalists in this statewide competition including a team from Lanier High and two teams from Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science and Technology.
