Meadowcreek Student Wins August Wilson Monologue Competition

Brian Jones won first place by competing with more than 175 students in Atlanta and will travel to New York to compete nationally for the title.

Meadowcreek High student Brian Jones won first place in the annual August Wilson Monologue Competition in Atlanta last week.

Jones, who competed against more than 175 students for the state win, now will travel to New York to compete nationally, according to a news release.

Meadowcreek High has participated for the last four years in the competition. Each year, the school has had a representative in the final round. This year four students advanced to finals, which were held Feb. 25 at the Southwest Arts Center in Atlanta, according to the competition website.

Jones and two other winners in Atlanta were awarded scholarships for their placements. The three will compete against winners from other states in the national finals on Broadway at the August Wilson Theatre in New York on May 6.
