GAC Wins State Titles in Girls Track, Golf

Greater Atlanta Christian Schools won both titles this past weekend.

' had a double victory this past week when the girls' track and golf teams both won State titles.

On Saturday, the Lady Spartans won the State AA Championship in Albany with an amazing team effort, according to a statement from the school.

"With only 0.25 points in the field events, our girls went from 'worst to first' by dominating the sprint events to capture the title in a close win over Region 6AA rivals Decatur [High School], Blessed Trinity [Catholic High School] and Westminster [Schools]," says the press release.

The final standing for the state meet were GAC with 59.25, Blessed Trinity with 54, Decatur with 52 and Westminister with 51. The final event came down to the 4 x 400 relay, which the GAC girls won.

On Monday, the girls' golf team captured the AA State title at Goshen Plantation Golf Club in Augusta. They defeated Vidalia Comprehensive High 158-157, with a single stroke.

The 2012 title marks the fifth tournament win for the Lady Spartans, according to the release.

Of all five wins, freshman Bailey Tardy was the low medalist.

In this year's championship, Tardy scored 1 over 73 after bogeying the first hole. Freshmen Elizabeth Mizell and Claire Maxa both shot an 84 to contribute to the win. Rounding out the scoring for GAC was Junior Kathryn Fazekas, who had a score of 86.
