GAC Twins Honored for Musical Talent

Seventh grade students prove that talent does run in the family.

Two students were honored recently for their talent in band—and they happen to be twin siblings.

Seventh graders William and Joanna Brooks both received separate state band honors this month, according to a release from the school.  “The twins are quite talented and will have many opportunities in their future,” said GAC Band Director Wes York.

William, who plays the trumpet, was chosen by the Georgia Music Educators Association for the District 13 Honor Band.  The 150 middle school students chosen across the state will come together at the Georgia Baptist Convention Center, where they will study with a guest clinician and get a chance to perform together.

Joanna, a trombone player, was selected for the 100-member UGA Middle School Band Festival recently. After an audition, she was awarded the first chair trombone position.

Both students play in the Marching Spartans Band, the Concert Band and the Jazz Band 2 at GAC.
