Books Donated in Loving Memory to Benefit Norcross Schools

A beautiful plaque adorns the walls of 45 South, in loving memory of a book and coffee lover, appropriately.

A Norcross Cluster Schools Partnership book project will soon be expanded in honor of a special woman, who sadly passed away recently.

A donation of some 400 books will soon be coming to 45 South Cafe in Historic Norcross--so many that a new shelf will be needed to house them. The books come from the personal library of Vicki Shewbert Hix, the owner's sister.

"She loved books and she loved reading," said Keith Shewbert. "This could not be any more perfect."

A piece of art inside of a wooden plaque now hangs on the wall, as a tribute to Vicki. A gray ceramic mug is in the center of the work, with a whimsical piece of netting reaching up to the heavens and shards of tile artfully placed in the backdrop.

"A cup 'o joe... A spot 'o tea, invites still moments to think of thee," is the inscription on a saucer under the cup.

The books will add to a library that is sold at $1.50 per book. The proceeds go to Norcross Cluster School's teacher grant program, which allows teachers to apply for grants for specific needs in the classroom.
