Kenya Jimenez-Ramirez is currently a fourth grader at Beaver Ridge Elementary School. She is a hard worker, and an outstanding student. She exemplifies to me what makes America great, because anyone can be anything that they want to be, if they have the persistence and the fortitude to make it happen.

Kenya is one of those students who does not say a lot. She isn’t always raising her hand or calling out the answers, but you can see Kenya’s brain at work.  She strives for excellence in everything that she does. When I observe Kenya I think of the biblical passage, “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might.”

Kenya is respected by her peers. Her calm, quiet demeanor holds her in good stead, helping her to focus on the task at hand – learning.

Kenya’s family is a family of modest means, but they understand the value of education. They are supportive of Kenya. Once again, when I think of Kenya, I am reminded of Abraham Lincoln, born in a log cabin, self-educated, who grew up to first be a lawyer and then one of our country’s greatest leaders.

Kenya, I believe, in the future will be one of our nation’s most productive citizens .  And when that day comes, I will proudly say, “I know her. I taught Kenya Jimenez-Ramirez at Beaver Ridge Elementary School.”

Sincerely,

Betty White
