During each meeting, the group reads aloud from one of the American Girl doll books, discusses the historical time period in which the book was set, participates in crafts to build bonds of friendship and an appreciation for art, and engages in group discussions about goals and the choices we can make to achieve them.

Club sponsors, Media Specialist Mary Beth Duty and 3rd grade teacher Jessie Brown, have been amazed by the Norcross community’s response to the club.

Several dolls have been donated to the school as well as American Girl doll clothing that was sewn by two women in Indiana who, when hearing about the club from a relative in Norcross, spent hours creating outfits for the dolls.

Through study of dolls of diverse backgrounds, from the Civil War era to WWII, it is hoped that students will have an increased awareness of America’s rich history and of the impact that one individual can make in the lives of many.
