New Construction in Downtown Norcross

After several years of inactivity, home building is on the upswing. A new subdivision, Ivey of Norcross, on Wingo Street is about to break ground.

There has been very little new construction in the City of Norcross over the last five years. Norcross experienced a flurry of new construction from 2000-2007 and once the real estate bubble burst, the new construction in the city came to an abrupt halt.

The City of Norcross has seen vacant lots ready to be developed sitting empty for nearly six years but that is about to change.

One such development is Ivey of Norcross on Wingo Street just past Paisano's restaurant. Ivey Of Norcross is a unique, intimate community in the heart of historic downtown Norcross that will total 16 homes once the nine available homesites are completed.

The neighborhood is close walking distance to the downtown area with access to all of the popular restaurants and shopping that inhabit downtown Norcross.

Ivey Of Norcross is fortunate to have the well known and award winning builder Robert Forro designing and building the 9 remaining homes. If you live in Norcross, you are familiar with several of Forro’s other subdivisions: Colonel Jones Park and Lum Howell to name a few.

Forro plans to use his architecture background to design and build cottage style homes with exceptional use of space. The homes will be smaller, square footage around 1,800, with at least 3 bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms.  Several floor plans are available with both master on the main and master bedroom upstairs.

The subdivision is named for local Norcross resident, Ivey B. Wingo. From 1910 to 1950 Norcross produced more professional baseball players than any other town in America per capita. In the late 19th century, Norcross boasted a minor league baseball field (presently the site of Lillian Webb Park).

Ivey Brown Wingo was born in 1890 in Georgia. He was a professional baseball player for 17 seasons, and he played as a catcher for the St. Louis Cardinals [1911-1914] and Cincinnati Reds [1915-1926, 1929]. He was a World Series Champion with the Cincinnati Reds for their 1919 season.

At the time of his retirement, Ivey held the National League record for games caught in a career at 1,233. Ivey was inducted in the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame in 2003.

The homes in Ivey of Norcross are priced from $265,000. It is a great opportunity to get new construction single family homes within walking distance to downtown Norcross at this price. The homes can be customized to fit the needs of the buyer which is another unique feature at this price point.
