Update on Peachtree Corners' Bid for Cityhood

Legislation to create a city-lite charter for this unincorporated Gwinnett community moving forward.

For Peachtree Corners residents, a referendum vote to decide if their community should become a city is moving steadily through the Georgia Assembly on its way to the governor's desk.

Wednesday, was crossover day for the Georgia Assembly, which is an important point for any legislation to have any hope of making it through the 2011 session. H. B. 396, legislation to incorporate the City of Peachtree Corners as the 16th city in Gwinnett County, passed on the floor that day and is now before the Senate for review.

"This is an exciting time for Peachtree Corners," said Mike Mason, president of the United Peachtree Corners Civic Association.Β  "We are all very pleased that it has passed the House and is now going to the Senate.Β  Many thanks to Rep. Tom Rice who did a great job in getting the City legislation through the House."

Rice, (R-Norcross) authored the charter for the Peachtree Corners which would, if it does make it through the its final stop at the governor's desk, will be put to a vote this fall for the residents of the West Gwinnett community to decide on cityhood.
