Sunday Sales Discussion on Council Agenda

Councilmember takes the first step to gauge interest in Sunday alcohol sales in the City of Norcross.

Councilmember Andrew Hixson has added a discussion of the Sunday sale of alcohol to the agenda of the council work-policy meeting, set for next Monday, June 20.

He said that it would be worthwhile to discuss it and to gauge the other Councilmembers' and Mayor's interest in the topic.

"I think we're having an election anyway, so might as well let the citizens decide," said Hixson. An election will be held on Nov. 8 to elect a Mayor and fill two council seats. He said that some citizens have been contacting him to urge him to get the topic on the ballot for November.

Hixson said that letting citizens put it to a vote was exactly what Gov. Nathan Deal had in mind when he signed the bill on April 28.

A change in the law would mostly effect gas stations that sell beer and wine, since it appears that there is only one package store in Norcross: Pop Top Package & Deli

The meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the 2nd floor conference room at City Hall.
