Should Unemployed People Have to Volunteer?

A state lawmaker has proposed that those collecting benefits give 24 hours per week. What do you think?

Sen. John Albers (R-Roswell) proposed a bill that would require those people collecting unemployment in the state of Georgia to do 24 hours of volunteer work per week.Β

The bill, called the Dignity for the Unemployed Act, would be effective after the person has been eligible to collect benefits for two weeks, reports the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The Labor Department could also suspend the Act for certain people, according to the article.Β

The legislative session gears up in January, but for now, what do you think? Would Norcross be better if those people collecting unemployment were giving back in some way? Or is the law unrealistic? Tell us in the comments or vote in our poll below. Β
