How Norcross eateries scored in health inspections conducted May 15-21.

Below are the results of recent Gwinnett County restaurant inspections in Norcross by the East Metro Health District, which covers Gwinnett, Rockdale and Newton counties. Each report includes a synopsis of deficiencies found by the inspector.

Deficiencies found: Mold present inside of ice bin of the ice machine; some menus didn't have advisory for raw beef and egg items; shell eggs were 66.4 and 63.0 degrees in the fridge; noodles cooling for two hours were 72.3 degrees and chicken was 87 degrees, they should have been discarded; bamboo shoots were 57.6 degrees after cooling from room temperature, should be 41 degrees or below; beef stew was 45.5 degrees after cooling overnight; food prep fridge was holding food at 63 and 66.4 degrees; side doors and lid were open on dumpster; air conditioner was not working for kitchen; the holes in the screen door allowed some flies to get in.

Deficiencies found: Bottled beer and cooking oil stored in direct contact with the floor; Light visible around exterior door entrance to kitchen.

Previous scores: 100/A (Oct. 13, 2011); 100/A (Aug. 30, 2011)

Deficiencies found: Papertowels not provided for back kitchen handsink; concentration of sanitizing buckets too strong (well above 200 ppm for chlorine); packaged, commercially processed foods for sale to th consumer not removed from sale immediately after the manufacturer's expiration date or sell-by date; gaskets on two-door reach-in cooler not clean and not in good repair; buildup of debris around interior of coolers and around exterior of equipment; employee's purse was in front area being stored in single-service articles and another was stored in back kitchen prep table next to food.

Deficiencies found: Employee was observed using a temperature measuring device on cooked food without first sanitizing the probe of the device; the walk-in cooler was found to have an ambient air temperature of above 41 degrees.

Deficiencies found: Quat sanitizer used in three-compartment sink was found to be dispensing at a concentration below 200ppm; cold-held potentially hazardous foods not maintained below 41 degrees.

Deficiencies found: Buildup of mold-like substance was present on the chute, guard and walls of the ice machine and ice storage bin; refrigerated, ready-to-eat, potentially hazardous food prepared and held in the establishment for more than 24 hours not clearly marked to indicate the date by which the food must be consumed, sold or discarded.

Location: 5265 Jimmy Carter Blvd.

Score: 81/B

Previous scores: 93/A (Dec. 28, 2011); 96/A (Nov. 3, 2011)

Deficiencies found: Cold-held potentially hazardous foods not maintained below 41 degrees; time controls not documented according to written procedure; refrigerated, ready-to-eat food prepared and held in establishment for more than 24 hours not clearly marked to indicate the date by which the food must be consumed, sold or discarded; no chlorine sanitizer in bucket downstairs.
