Qualifying Dates Set for Upcoming Municipal Elections

Three seats are up for re-election, the mayor and two city council positions.

Three seats on Norcross City Council will be on the ballot in the fall. The mayor's seat and two council members seats are up for re-election.

Those seats are currently held by Bucky Johnson (Mayor) and Council members Charlie Riehm and Craig Newton. 

Mayor Johnson and Council member Craig Newton have confirmed with Patch that they intend on running again, Riehm had not committed as of the deadline for this story.

For those contemplating throwing their hats in the ring to run for one of these council seats, qualifying has been set for Monday, Aug. 26 through Friday, Aug. 30.

Qualifying will be held at Norcross City Hall, 65 Lawrenceville Street from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (Aug 26-30).

The qualifying fee for the office of City Council is $162.00 and $207.00 for the mayor's seat. Qualifying will be conducted in the office of the City Clerk, Susan Wuerzner.

Norcross voters also have a chance to decide whether to extend Gwinnett County's 1-cent sales tax (SPLOST).
