Peachtree Corners Parcel up for Rezoning

A Peachtree Corners apartment caught the eye of a "big box" developer.

Sturbridge Square Apartments, built some 25 years ago, are now long past their glory days. One of the first complexes in the area, the apartment buildings are now run down and in badly need of repair.

The 21-acre site has caught the eye of a developer interested in rezoning to allow the construction of 182,887 square feet of retail space including a 151,687 square foot "big box" type of retail building with paved parking for 798 vehicles.

A meeting arranged by the United Peachtree Corners Civic Association has been set for Thursday, Feb. 17 at 7:30 p.m. at the Fowler YMCA's Senior Center meeting room to discuss the rezoning application.

Representatives from the developer and anchor tenant will be onhand to discuss the proposed project plans and answer questions. While no official word on just what type of retailer could be coming into the area, Wayne Knox, UPCCA's VP of Land Use, points out that "this company has been a developer for Wal-Mart locations in other states, and the application is almost the same square footage from another state."

All residents of Peachtree Corners are encouraged to attend the meeting. For any questions, contact Wayne Knox, UPCCA land use vice president at vplanduse@upcca.org
