Norcross PD Awarded $10,000 Grant

The grant comes from the Governor's Office of Highway Safety.

The Governor's Office of Highway Safety has awarded the Norcross Police Department a $10,000 public safety partnership grant.

The incentive grant is designed for smaller law enforcement agences that have partnered with GOHS and excelled making the communities safer, whether it's through participation in highway safety intiatives or patrolling neighborhoods, according to a press release from Nocross PD spokesman Capt. Brian Harr.

“The goal of the grant is to reward agencies for their proactive approach to traffic safety and to provide them with the necessary tools to effectively continue their lifesaving efforts,” said Harris Blackwood, Director of the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety.

Norcross PD has been able to purchase two solar-powered speed notification systems that have been placed on Mitchell Road and North Norcross-Tucker Road. These systems provide speed notice to drivers as they enter residential areas.

“This grant has allowed our agency to supplement our traffic safety effort to reduce vehicle speeds and increase awareness,” stated Harr.
