Norcross Mayor Announced as New Chair of MAMA

Bucky Johnson took the new position for the Metro Atlanta Mayors Association in June.

Norcross Mayor Bucky Johnson became the new chair for the Metro Atlanta Mayors Association, a cooperative alliance of the mayors of 68 cities in the 10-county metro Atlanta region.

Johnson took the position when former chair Johns Creek Mayor Bike Bodker became the third vice president for the Georgia Municipal Association in June, according to the MAMA website.

The Norcross mayor told MAMA members that he would like to pursue a "stronger regional outlook for the organization," says the article.

"A personal goal is to work on regional cooperation between cities and to look for ways to connect with County Commissioners and state elected officials on mutually beneficial projects and programs," Johnson told MAMA.

Johnson also plans to keep existing MAMA events such as the annual Georgia Rides to the Capitol and the Magical Journey Circus experience, which is aimed for children with special needs.

In addition to being the new MAMA chair and the mayor of Norcross since 2008, Johnson also serves as the chair for both the Gwinnett Tech Foundation and the Atlanta Regional Transportation Round Table.

He is also on the Executive Board of the Georgia Municipal Association and the Gwinnett Municipal Association, and he's a of numerour organizations including the Atlanta Regional Commission, the Georgia Municipal Association's Legislative Committee and the Gwinnett Artworks Board.

About the Metro Atlanta Mayors Association: MAMA's goal is to help with communications among the 10-county region and agencies on the federal, state and regional level with citizens; support public policy decisions and coordinate activities in the cities.
