Norcross City Council Meets Monday for Policy Work Session, Special Called Meeting

Pay increases for elected officials, land acquisitions, shade structures for Lillian Webb Field and more are on the agendas for the two meetings.

The Norcross City Council and Mayor Bucky Johnson will meet Monday, April 15, for a special-called meeting and their monthly policy work session.

The special-called meeting will start first at 6:30 p.m. on the second floor conference room of Norcross City Hall. The elected officials will discuss the purchase of three parcels of land: 250 Pinnacle Way, Britt Avenue and Mitchell Road.

The Britt Avenue and Mitchell Street properties are under the same agenda item because they are contiguous to one other, according to the agenda. The reason for the acquisition is to "provide additional parking and expansion of the development around Lillian Webb Park," according to the agenda. The agenda also includes an appraisal detailing that each lot has an estimated value of $300,000.

For the 250 Pinnacle Way location, the reason for purchase is to "provide possible regional water retention and a park with walking trails."

The policy work session will follow the first meeting in the same room. The agenda items include:

Mayor and city council pay: It's being proposed that the elected officials receive a 50 percent raise since they haven't seen a pay increase since 1995.

Allocation of funds for water-sewer system sale to Gwinnett County: At the April city council meeting, the council discussed setting aside the funds from the sale and putting them into a specific project type, such as infrastructure, instead of going straight to the city's general fund.

Shade structure proposal for Lillian Webb Field: The agenda shows the addition of arbors and a shade kite to be considered for the park.

Rezoning of a lot on Autry Street: The rezoning concerns dividing an undeveloped lot on Autry Street behind Lum Howell Park into five residential parcels.
