Meeting to Discuss a New Interchange at Jimmy Carter

The Gwinnett Village CID seeks public input about the proposed Double Diamond Interchange, which they say will ease traffic by eliminating hard left turns.

The Georgia DOT, Gwinnett Place CID and Gwinnett Village CIDs will soon be holding public meetings to get input on two proposed Diverging Diamond Interchange projects at the I-85 exits on Pleasant Hill Rd and Jimmy Carter Blvd.

Citizens are invited to attend the meeting at the new Gwinnett Village CID office at 5855 Jimmy Carter Blvd on Tuesday, March 1 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The meetings will be an "open house" style.

Patch explains the project in this earlier article. The basic idea is to cross traffic over to the “opposite” side of the road, eliminating hard lefts and easing traffic congestion at these notoriously slow intersections.

Representatives from Gwinnett DOT and Georgia DOT will be on hand to answer questions, along with representatives from both of the CIDs.

Brian Allen, Director of the GDOT, praised the two projects in a recent release from the CIDs, saying the improvements would both increase capacity and ease congestion woes at the intersections, while using the existing bridges in place.
