Large Crowd Greets Congressman During Town Hall

A large, and mostly supportive, crowd turned out for Tuesday's town hall meeting in Lawrenceville with U.S. Rep. Rob Woodall of Georgia's Seventh District.

U.S. Rep. Rob Woodall (R-Lawrenceville), who represents Georgia’s Seventh District, spoke to a largely supportive crowd at a town hall meeting in Lawrenceville Tuesday, telling attendees the new way of imposing tax is through regulation (see video clip). He said although no regulations have come before Congress during his seven months in office, 600 new government regulations were either finalized or proposed during the month of July alone.

Woodall defended his vote on raising the debt ceiling, saying it reduced the size and scope of government and, for the first time in American history, it was linked to dollar-for-dollar spending cuts. He reiterated his support for the Cut, Cap and Balance Bill that the House of Representatives passed, but that the Senate wouldn’t allow a vote on.

In response to a question from a senior citizen, Woodall gave his assurance that current social security and benefits for seniors wouldn’t be cut, but said entitlements had to be taken into consideration in order to get the country’s financial house in order. He said those cuts, however, would come from future generations, like himself, as well as extravagant government benefit programs, and not current senior citizens (see video clip).

There were a few detractors in the crowd who chanted “Where are the jobs Rob – Rob where are the jobs,” but others in the crowd were quick to shush those shouting out.

Woodall has several more town hall meetings planned over the next week.
