Georgia is Seeking Artists to Help Design New Tag

A contest, to run until June 17, is asking for design submission for the new Georgia license plate to be launched in 2012.

Georgia residents have an opportunity to put their artistic talents to use and create the next generation of car tags for the state.

Gov. Nathan Deal announced this week that the state Department of Revenue will host a contest, open to the general public, to find a design for a new Georgia license plate. Design submissions will be accepted until June 17.

“We want to embrace the artistic and creative talents of Georgia’s residents by asking for submissions that will provide an exciting new design to appear on millions of new general issue license plates,” said state Revenue Commissioner Douglas MacGinnitie.

The state is scheduled to produce a new license plate in 2012.

The state Department of Revenue is looking for original artwork for the new license plate and is open to all Georgia citizens or companies authorized to do business in the state. The public will then have the opportunity to select three semifinalists via an online vote from June 24 - July 8. Deal will choose the winning design from the three semifinalists, the winner to be announced July 15 in a ceremony he or she will attend along with the governor, MacGinnite and Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle.
