Free Pie! And Four Other Reasons to Vote Today

I was listening to NPR yesterday and I heard something that really made me mad. An announcer said, “Even though you probably haven’t heard about them, there are elections in Atlanta tomorrow.” 

I regret that statement. If you are connected to local schools, if you care about buying booze on Sundays, heck, if you simply answer the door in Norcross, you know about today’s elections. If you still need some motivation, allow me to break it down for you.

Here are the top five reasons why every person should vote in Norcross:

5. Free Pie

Anyone with an “I Voted” sticker gets free peach cobbler at .  No purchase necessary, just flash your sticker and collect a dessert.

4. You Can’t Complain if You Don’t Vote

Doesn’t everyone hate it when their mom says this? But we hate it because it is true. If you are annoyed by the pothole on your street or peeved because you can’t bring your dog in the park (on the grass, that is, officially), listen up. You’ll have to vote on a City Council member if you want to complain with any authority. Aside from being fun, complaining IS an important part of democracy and everything.

3. Less Planning on Football Sundays

If you are anything like me, you don’t plan ahead very well. I especially have a hard time planning to pick up a bottle of wine to bring to a friend’s Sunday night dinner party or a six-pack for the game I’ll watch against my will. That could all change if Sunday beer and wine sales passes. (If you live in the City of Norcross you may vote on this at City Hall. Those in the county don’t get to vote on this issue.)

2. It Is An Excuse to Leave Work Early

I’ve seen people (yes, friends of friends, of course) make up some pretty elaborate excuses to leave their desks. This one is readymade! You’ll even look like a hero. And that brings me to the Number One reason every person should vote…
