City Council Meeting Tonight

A Sierra Club presentation, the annexation of CarMax and demolition applications are on the agenda draft.

Tonight’s council meeting will begin with a presentation by the Sierra Club about Sustainable Norcross and the Green Communities award. A petition for the annexation of CarMax into the city limits and the official demolition applications for three homes are also scheduled, according to a draft of the meeting agenda.

The CarMax petition was received by the city on Jan. 13, according to documents provided by the city. The request, filed on behalf of Daboo, LLC and by CarMax, the Auto Superstore, has been reviewed by the Planning and Zoning Committee, which recommends that it be approved with continued C-2 zoning.

CarMax did request that a new pylon sign be approved along I-85, roughly equal in height and size to the one their neighbor, Lowe’s, has. Lowe’s is currently in the city limits.

The demolition permit applications for three city-owned properties in the historic district are the final items listed on the draft of the meeting agenda. Those notarized applications include details such as pictures, architectural descriptions and statements of intent for the properties. The contractor for the demolitions has not been decided, according to the applications.

The work session will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the second floor conference room and the council session will be at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall.
