Johnson is taking a vacation at the end of August, so is currently getting his paperwork together to formally submit. He said that if another candidate steps up, he will begin campaigning upon his return in September.

If other candidates do declare, the election will be held on Nov. 8, 2011.  Two other seats expire in this election cycle: Councilmembers Charlie Riehm and Craig Newton.
