Norcross Mayor Bucky Johnson declared that he is seeking re-election.
Johnson is currently serving his second two-year term, after defeating long-time Mayor Lillian Webb in his first bid for mayor.
“I still think I can help the community,” Johnson said. “I’ve got the time and I’ve got the passion.”
Johnson is taking a vacation at the end of August, so is currently getting his paperwork together to formally submit. He said that if another candidate steps up, he will begin campaigning upon his return in September.
If other candidates do declare, the election will be held on Nov. 8, 2011. Two other seats expire in this election cycle: Councilmembers Charlie Riehm and Craig Newton.
Qualifying for office will begin on Aug. 29 and end on Sept. 2. The qualifying fee for the mayoral office is $207. The qualifying fee for a council seat is set at $162. Candidates must be at least 18 years old and be a resident of the City of Norcross for one year.
Qualifying packets are available through the City Clerk’s office.
