Brooks Takes Gwinnett BOC Office Monday

The former Suwanee City Council member will attend his first Gwinnett meeting Tuesday.

Jace Brooks, elected in July to represent Gwinnett BOC District 1, will be sworn into office Monday, Sept. 17.

According to a Gwinnett County news release Friday, Brooks will attend his first Gwinnett BOC meeting Tuesday, Sept. 18.

Brooks, a Suwanee City Council member from 2002-12, will be filling the remainder of the term that was vacated when Shirley Lasseter resigned in May amid federal bribery charges. He was the only qualifier for the special election in November to fill the unexpired term.

Brooks was elected in July to the full term that begins in 2013.

District 1 represents Suwanee, Duluth and Sugar Hill.

“I’m grateful to take office now because District 1 needs and deserves an effective representative,” Brooks said in the Gwinnett news release. “I’m looking forward to assuming the responsibility to help move Gwinnett forward in a positive direction.”

Commission Chairman Charlotte Nash said, “We are pleased to have the board at full strength again and wholeheartedly welcome Commissioner Brooks to the commission. He will play an important role as we deal with the issues facing Gwinnett County."

Brooks is a former mayor pro tem of Suwanee.
