Who Qualified for the Norcross City Council Race?

Arlene Beckles and Keith Shewbert will run against two members of the current council, Ross Kaul and David McLeroy, in the local November election. Mayor Pro Tem Andrew Hixson is running unopposed.

Two Norcross residents qualified Friday as candidates to run in the upcoming city council election against the current councilmen whose terms are ending.

Arlene Beckles and Keith Shewbert will run against the current councilmen whose terms will end this year. Those councilmen are Ross Kaul and David McLeroy, in addition to Mayor Pro Tem Andrew Hixson. Their terms will expire Dec. 31, 2012, but all three qualified for re-election Friday.

Beckles is the vice president of the Norcross Arts Alliance, co-chair of Safe Routes to School, the founding member of the Norcross Police Department Foundation and several other local organizations. Shewbert is a former Norcross councilman and owner of downtown's , and he also recently purchased now Chocolate Perks in Duluth.

In November, Beckles will run against McLeroy's post on the council, and Shewbert will run against Kaul. Hixson is running unopposed.
