Stranded Motorists Allegedly Carjack Woman

Three out-of-towners allegedly threatened a woman with knives and a gun while she was driving.

A 22-year-old Lawrenceville woman was allegedly carjacked and threatened while driving on I-85 South near Jimmy Carter Boulevard one May afternoon.

According to a Gwinnett County Police report, the woman was driving on I-85 South in unincorporated Norcross around 3:30 p.m. May 16 when she noticed a red vehicle on the right side of the highway. The car appeared to be broken down, and she saw two women and one man walking away from it.

The 22-year-old pulled over to help the stranded motorists. With the man in the front seat and the two women in the backseat, the driver carted them to Pleasantdale Road, as per the man's request. The woman told police that she was running low on fuel, so she told her passengers that she needed to refuel before taking them to their exit.

She got off the Jimmy Carter exit to pump gas at a Shell gas station. Nothing fishy occurred while she was getting gas, she told police, so she sat back in her car to get back onto I-85 South.

Since traffic was heavy, the driver said she couldn't get over in time, so she drove to I-85 North in order to get off at the Indian Trail Road exit to get back onto the southbound highway.

Once they were back on I-85 South and the driver was off the phone with her boyfriend, the man allegedly said, "I'm only gonna tell you this once, you go straight, or I'm gonna cut your throat!"

He then demanded her phone and pulled out a box cutter to hold it against her throat. The woman sitting directly behind her also threatened her and held up a sharp object, which the victim alleged was a 10-inch silver filet knife. The other woman pointed a semi-automatic handgun to the driver's side.

The victim said she slammed on her brakes just past the Jimmy Carter bridge in the middle of I-85. Cursing at them, she said that she wasn't driving them anywhere. She began fighting and screaming at them, and at one point she punched the man and one of the women in their faces.

The three allegedly left the car and ran toward Crescent Drive. The victim told police that she did not see where they went after that.

Officers searched for the suspects in the area, but the report does not state if they found anyone and it does not list any suspects.

She told police that, while she was pumping gas, she had a conversation with the man in the front seat. He told her that they were traveling from New York to Orlando, Fla.

It turns out the red vehicle that was broken down was a stolen vehicle from North Carolina.

According to the victim, the male suspect was a white, bald male who was between 6 feet tall and 6 feet 3 inches, had a skinny build and blue eyes, possessed no facial hair, and was between the ages of 23 and 30 years old. He had a tattoo on his arm, was wearing a dark blue shirt and shorts, and he had a dark bookbag and a pair of brown sunglasses with white frames. The victim said he left his cigarette pack and sunglasses in the front seat.

Both women were white and 5-foot-6, said the victim. She added that they were both "chubby," had dirty blonde hair, appeared to be in their mid-20s, and had "nasty-looking teeth," as if they were smoking crack. The woman with the knife had a pink shirt with a white swirly design on it and blue jeans, and was wearing pink eye shadow. The other woman had a black shirt and blue jeans on, and she had highlights in her hair.
