While Checking his Mail, Man Robbed of More Than $3,000

A man said he was checking his mail when he was held up for a large sum of cash. He did not think anyone could have followed him from the bank.

A man said he was walking to his mailbox last Thursday evening when two men pulled a gun on him and robbed him. He had $3,300 in cash that he gave up to his robbers, according to a Gwinnett County Police Department incident report.

Tyler Anderson went to his mail kiosk in the Oakwood Vista apartment complex in the unincorporated area of Norcross off Jimmy Carter Boulevard around 11:40 p.m. on Thursday.

According to the police report, he was checking his mail when he was approached by two men wearing black hoodies and black ski masks. The victim said that one pointed a gun at his head and demanded his money.

The man happened to have $3,300 in cash in his pocket, which he divided in half then handed to one of the suspects, responding officer T.A. Raimey wrote in his incident report.

Anderson said the men took off into the apartment pool complex and that he was not able to make out anything about their race or see their faces.

The report stated that he had a “scratch on the side of his face from where one of the pistols was pressed against his head.”

Anderson said he picked up the money at a bank earlier in the day and visited several other locations before returning home. “He said that it was unlikely that anyone would know he had such a large amount of cash,” the officer wrote in the police report.
