Updated: Waffle House Offering Reward for Serial Robbers

A diner in the City of Norcross was among those stuck up.

Updated Aug. 11 at 9:30 a.m.

The Norcross Police Department is on the hunt for two men who they believed robbed the Waffle House at 5122 Brook Hollow Pkwy—and nine other Metro Atlanta stores—at gunpoint.

Clear video footage of the men has led investigators in Norcross, Gwinnett, DeKalb and Clayton to link the same men to all of the robberies. The Norcross PD is now asking for the public’s help in identifying the men, who they describe as black males in their 20s or 30s.

Another Waffle House robbery occurred this morning in Marietta, but it is unclear if these incidents are related.

The suspect wearing sunglasses in the Norcross tape is likely between 6 feet and 6 feet, 2 inches tall. He has medium length hair and a thin build. The other man is likely between 5 feet, 9 inches and 5 feet, 10 inches tall and of medium build, says Sgt. Bill Grogan, who is leading the Norcross PD investigation.

Police say the suspects have robbed all of the stores in a similar fashion: They come in between about 2 a.m. and 5:30 a.m., before the morning rush. The suspects approach the register to place a take-out order. When the cashier opens the drawer to receive a payment, the men brandish a gun and demand the cash. “It’s the oldest scheme in the book,” said Grogan.

The Waffle House robberies do not appear to be the work of the so-called Burger King Bandit, who has hit many fast food establishments in the Metro area, but Grogan says it is possible that the men are connected somehow.

Atlanta Police have confirmed that that fast food robber is 31-year-old Jimmy Allen, who was shot yesterday morning while attempting to rob a Burger King in Buckhead.

There have been no injuries reported in any of the Waffle House robberies, said Grogan, and he would like to make sure that none happen in the future either. “For the safety of the employees and all of the customers, we want to get this information out as soon as possible,” he said.

Waffle House is now offering a $2,500 reward for information that leads to an arrest or conviction. If the suspects are seen, police ask that the public call 911. Anyone with tips should call the Norcross PD tip line at 770-448-6457.
