Waffle House in Norcross Robbed Twice in Same Week

Inside the Police Reports: Police believe the same suspects are responsible for both crimes and may be linked to six other robberies in DeKalb.

Police believe the same suspects are responsible for robbing the same Waffle House in Norcross twice last week, in addition to other robberies in the metro area.

On Saturday (April 20), Gwinnett police say an armed man robbed the 6079 Goshen Springs restaurant and then fled the scene in a getaway car driven by another man.

They fired shots at officers while they followed the two men on Jimmy Carter Boulevard. No one was injured, and the suspects, later identified as Tavares Douglas Harris and Tamari Adams, stopped at the Home Depot near Lawrenceville Highway where police apprehended them.

On the previous Sunday (April 14), a man walked into the same Waffle House around 8:45 p.m. and robbed it, too, according to the Norcross Police report.

No customers were in the restaurant at the time, but the cook and waitress were in the front and a third employee was in the back. The first two workers told police that the suspect pulled out a handgun and ordered them to open the cash register.

The waitress opened the register and placed the cash on the counter. The suspect picked up the money and left on foot.

Before the waitress reached the register, the cook was able to press the panic button. He also called authorities on the phone to report the robbery.

The employee in the back said he did not hear anything. Police checked the surrounding area to find the suspect, but the report does not detail anyone they may have found.

According to Capt. Brian Harr of Norcross Police, authorities believe Adams and Harris are responsible for the two robberies, but that's not all.

"There is also an ongoing investigation that possibly links these suspects to possibly six similar robberies in Dekalb County," said Harr.

For the April 20th arrest, Adams, 24, of Norcross, was arrested and charged with armed robbery, fleeing or eluding police, two counts of aggravated assault, and multiple traffic violations. Harris, 25, of Lithonia, was arrested and charged with armed robbery, providing a false name to an officer and two counts of aggravated assault. They remain in jail without bond.
