Trial Begins in Slaying of Norcross High Teen

A home invasion lead to the shooting death of Nick Jackson, Jr., 15. Six men were arrested along with the boy's father, who was found guilty of dealing drugs which police say ultimately lead to his son's death.

The trial of one of those suspected to be involved in the 2012 death of a Norcross High School student begins today.

According to a Gwinnett Daily News report, Jason Dozier, 38, of Lithonia, goes on trial Monday, Oct. 7 for the killing of 15-year-old Nick Jackson, Jr.

Nick Jr. -- described as an excellent student and a member of the Blue Devils football team -- was gunned down in the early evening of Feb. 2, 2012 by robbers who had kicked in the basement door of his family's home in Norcross.

Later, police would tie the shooting death to the boy's father, Nick Jackson, Sr., who police discovered was involved in a Mexican distributing network. Detectives said that men were looking for money and drugs at the Jackson home.

During the home invasion Nick Jr. was shot in the heart. His sister, Nikia, hid and called 911. The information she provided to police lead to the arrests of six men.

On May 24, 2013, Nick Jackson, Sr., was sentenced to at least eight years in prison for distributing cocaine.
