One robbery and one assault in the last month in the Norcross area involved the suspects using pepper spray on their victims.

The latest incident occurred around 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 10, at the Red Roof Inn in the city. Norcross Police arrived at the 5171 Brook Hollow Pkwy. hotel to talk to the victim and a witness of the assault.

The victim told police that she was cleaning a room when suddenly a man pushed her from behind and sprayed her immediately with mace. The man then started choking her, but she decided to fight back with scratching and slapping.

She scratched his face and was able to get to the door, where a hotel guest was able to help her get away from the man.

Nothing was listed as stolen in the report.

The other incident occurred in late November at a Dollar Store in unincorporated Norcross. The cashier of the 1241 Indian Trail Lilburn Rd. shop told Gwinnett County Police that the suspect sprayed her with pepper spray, then punched her in the nose, causing her to bleed.

He yelled at her to open the register and give him the money, and she complied even though she explained that it was hard for her to see. He then forced her to perform a sexual act on him.

The suspect left after he made her open some machines that had nothing of value in them. From what she saw before he maced her, the suspect was a black male who wore a ski mask underneath a black hoodie.

In the hotel incident, the victim said she was unable to get a good look of the suspect, but the guest who assisted her was able to give police a description. According to the witness, the man was black, clean cut and skinny, and he was wearing a black skull cap, a black bubble-style jacket with a gray or black shirt and black shorts. She also told police that he looked like a person she knew named Solo.
