Suspect in Custody in Area Shooting

Maxwell Nyetrae is being held by Gwinnett County Police.

A suspect wanted in connection with a Feb. 21 shooting in unincorporated Norcross is now in police custody.

Gwinnett County Police responded to a call at about 1:30 a.m. at 1355 Tree Trail Pkwy.Β 

Officers found Travis Cox in front of the 600 building at the above addresses with an apparent gunshot wound in the back. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

While Cox was in the hospital, he was able to speak to detectives about what happened. Cox said he was visiting his girlfriend, Jessica Nyetrae. As he left her house, he found that one of his tires was flat. While Cox was fixing the tire, he said he was approached by a man he identified as Maxwell Nyetrae, Jessica Nyetrae’s estranged husband.

Cox said that he was shot by the man, who was later taken into custody at his Lilburn home at 5224 Birdlake Drive. He is being held without bond on charges of aggravated assault, aggravated battery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.Β
