Suspect Shot, Killed by Police in Home Invasion in Norcross Area

The suspect was shot by police after entering a home in Woodland Ridge Apartments.

Update, Monday 10:50 a.m.: Cpl. Edwin Ritter of Gwinnett County Police said authorities received a call about the home invasion around 7:30 a.m. and arrived on scene at 7:35 a.m. The two kids in the apartment are pre-teens.

Crime scene unit investigators and homicide investigators have gathered evidence at the home, which is in building three at the front of the apartment complex. Members of the district attorney's office also were at the scene.

There are multiple witnesses, added Ritter.

It's not clear if the suspect took anything. There's no information on the suspect until authorities have identified the next of kin.

The suspect in a home invasion is dead after being shot by police in the Norcross area.

According to Gwinnett County Police spokesman Cpl. Edwin Ritter, the suspect forced entry into a home at Woodland Ridge Apartments at 301 Tree Trail Pkwy. in unincorporated Norcross Monday morning (April 22).

Two kids were home alone, but they were able to make it out of the apartment safely and contact a neighbor who called police, according to Ritter.

"The first responding officer was confronted by the suspect as he exited the apartment. The suspect presented a deadly force confrontation with the police officer, forcing to officer to respond with deadly force, by shooting the suspect," said Ritter in a news release.

The suspect was transported to Gwinnett Medical Center where he later died from his injury. The officer was not injured.

The Gwinnett County Police Deadly Force Investigation Team, comprised of investigators from the Homicide Unit and The Gwinnett County District Attorney’s Office are on scene conducting a thorough investigation into the incident that occurred.
