Storm Keeps Gwinnett Firefighters Busy

Four incidents reported Saturday, including lightning strikes.

Gwinnett fire/emergency workers were out in force Saturday night as they responded to four storm-related incidents, two caused by lightning strikes.

Although fire officials did not report any emergency incidents in Norcross from the storm, the area did experience spotty power outages. Still, there were "no significant outages last night" in the Gwinnett County area, according to Lynn Wallace, a Georgia Power spokesperson.

During the storm, there were 835 reports of power outages in Sandy Springs, which is in the "metro north" area for Georgia Power, Wallace said. The "metro north" area also includes Gwinnett County.

Currently, there are about 19 customers in the county without power, Wallace said. However, it was unclear as to whether that was storm related.

Firefighters responded to two incidents in Lilburn. Trees were down across houses, one at 4083 John's Street and one at 1103 Hasty Court. Occupants were in both houses at the time, but no injuries were reported. The tree penetrated the roof at the John' s Street address, but no major structural damage was done.

In addition, a lightning strike caused a fire at 3347 Remembrance Trace in Lawrenceville. The occupant called 911 after smelling smoke in the basement area of the house, according to reports. The fire quickly was extinguished by first-due firefighters, and no injuries were reported.

Also, lightning caused a small fire at 1154 Gulfport Run in Grayson. The fire was reported in the master bedroom, and firefighters quickly knocked down the flames. There were no injuries reported.

In the metro Atlanta area, there were 1,700 customers without power throughout the storm, according to Lynn Wallace, a spokesperson.
